The Tivoli at a glance
Built in 1917 as the Adams Bakery, the building later served as a storage site for rare books before a new owner, Ann Garms, turned it into a cabaret-style restaurant and theatre in the Expo 88 era, modelled on Paris’s Paradis Latin. Over the following decades it became one of Brisbane’s favourite mid-sized rock rooms: an ornate hall with a standing floor and a balcony, holding around 1,500 people. The Tivoli books a wide spread of genres, and its 2027 list shows it — Vince Staples, Public Image Ltd, Loudon Wainwright III, Tinariwen, Periphery, Mono, Pavlov’s Dog and The Saints ’73–’78 are all confirmed, with more than twenty dates already on our calendar. Being on Costin Street rather than the main Valley strip keeps the entry queue a little calmer than at the bigger halls.
Getting to The Tivoli
The Tivoli is at 52 Costin Street, on the quieter northern side of Fortitude Valley. Fortitude Valley and Bowen Hills stations are both within roughly ten to fifteen minutes on foot, and buses along Wickham Street and Ann Street drop you closer. After the show many people walk back towards Brunswick Street for a late drink or to the station. Street parking is limited and time-restricted, so a commercial car park in the Valley or rideshare is more reliable if you are driving. On busy weekend nights, allow extra time for rideshare pick-ups in the Valley.
Before your The Tivoli concert
For general admission shows the floor fills from the front; the balcony gives a clear view for those who get there early enough to claim a spot. The room is compact, so even the back of the floor feels close. Fortitude Valley’s restaurants are within walking distance for dinner before doors. Late-night trains from Fortitude Valley station are the easiest way home; check the last service on your line before the encore.
