About The Fortitude Music Hall
The Fortitude Music Hall opened in July 2019 after a multi-million-dollar build behind an Art Deco-inspired façade designed by Brisbane practice Arkhefield. It was backed by developer Scott Hutchinson with Secret Sounds’ Paul Piticco and former Powderfinger bass player John Collins, and many locals see it as the room the city lacked after Festival Hall closed in 2003. Its location is no accident: Fortitude Valley was declared a special entertainment precinct in 2006, with planning rules designed to protect live music. The main room is designed around a big general admission floor, and the building also houses The Outpost, a smaller space for around 300 people. In 2027 it is the busiest venue in our Brisbane data, with almost thirty confirmed nights from Rodrigo y Gabriela in January to Passenger in October.
Getting to The Fortitude Music Hall
The hall faces Brunswick Street Mall, a couple of minutes’ walk from Fortitude Valley station, which is served by most Queensland Rail City network lines. That makes it one of the easiest venues in the city to reach by train. Buses along Ann Street and Wickham Street stop nearby. On Friday and Saturday nights the Valley is busy and the safe night precinct rules apply around the mall, so allow time for queues at the door and on the way out. Parking is in commercial car parks around the Valley.
Before your The Fortitude Music Hall concert
Most shows here are general admission, so where you stand is decided by when you arrive: come early for the front, or hang back near the bar and sound desk for a clearer mix and an easier exit. Check each event page for any seated or accessible viewing options. There are plenty of places to eat within a few minutes in the Valley, from James Street to Chinatown Mall.
