On Friday and Saturday nights the Valley is busy and the safe night precinct rules apply around the mall, so allow time for queues at the door and on the way out. Parking is in commercial car parks around the Valley.

Brisbane’s concert venues each have a distinct character, and it helps to know which kind you are heading to. The arena at Boondall, in the northern suburbs, is a classic indoor bowl with a standing floor and tiered seats. Suncorp Stadium in Milton is the city’s big rectangular stadium, normally home to rugby league, and becomes a concert venue a handful of times a year. The Riverstage sits in a natural amphitheatre in the City Botanic Gardens, with lawn and terraced areas, and the QPAC forecourt at South Bank turns a cultural precinct into an open-air stage by the river.

In Fortitude Valley, The Fortitude Music Hall on Brunswick Street is a modern hall with a large floor and balcony, while The Tivoli on Costin Street is an older brick room that has hosted touring bands for decades. In Woolloongabba, The Princess Theatre is one of the oldest theatre buildings in the city.

Whatever the room, read the venue’s conditions of entry before the night: bag size, re-entry and age rules vary and are applied at the door, not negotiated there.
