The Gabba at a glance
The Brisbane Cricket Ground has been a sporting site since the 1890s, and the “Gabba” nickname comes from Woolloongabba itself. It is the home of the Brisbane Lions in the AFL, the Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash and the Queensland Bulls in first-class cricket. Concerts are occasional rather than routine: the venue’s record crowd came from Adele’s 2017 shows, when the stage set-up pushed attendance to about 60,000. Its long-term future is tied to the Brisbane 2032 plan, under which the state government has committed to a new main stadium at Victoria Park. The 2026-27 international summer gives it a single men’s T20 International against England on 27 November 2026 and no Test. For 2027 the Gabba remains an active ground; no concert there is confirmed as of 9 October 2026.
The Gabba: getting there and back
The Gabba sits on Vulture and Stanley Streets in Woolloongabba, about 2 km south-east of the CBD. Park Road and Buranda stations are the closest rail options, and South Bank is a walk of around 20 minutes along Stanley Street. The South East Busway runs right past the ground, and many bus routes from the city stop within a few minutes. Parking nearby is scarce and heavily restricted on event days; Stadiums Queensland ticketed events have traditionally included Translink travel, which is the easier way in. Leaving after a full house, walking to South Bank or the city before catching transport often saves time.
Before your The Gabba concert
For cricket, the eastern and western stands get the afternoon sun differently — bring a hat and sunscreen for day sessions. Night games in January are warm and often humid. Food and bar options along Logan Road and Stanley Street fill up before big games, so arrive early if you want a table. For concerts on the field, standing tickets put you on the turf with the stage at one end, while seated tickets in the lower tiers give the most comfortable view.
