What to know about Brisbane Showgrounds

Run by the Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association of Queensland, the showgrounds are best known as the home of the Ekka, the Royal Queensland Show, held here every August for well over a century. Part of the site has been redeveloped as the King Street precinct, with restaurants and bars a few minutes from the gates. Outside show season the main arena and surrounding pavilions host festivals and large outdoor concerts. In 2027 Calvin Harris plays here on 19 February, and Laneway Festival’s Brisbane leg is set for 13 February.

Getting to Brisbane Showgrounds

The showgrounds are in Bowen Hills, just north of Fortitude Valley. Bowen Hills station, served by most northern lines, is the everyday option and a walk of under ten minutes. Exhibition station, which sits right at the grounds, only operates for selected major events such as the Ekka, so check Translink advice for your date. Buses on Gregory Terrace and Bowen Bridge Road stop nearby, and the Valley is a 15 to 20 minute walk if you want food afterwards. Parking on the grounds is limited for big events, and surrounding streets are tightly controlled, so public transport is the safer choice.

Before your Brisbane Showgrounds concert

Outdoor events here are exposed to Brisbane’s summer weather: bring sun protection for daytime sets, drink water, and check event conditions for bags and re-entry, which differ from event to event. Afternoon storms are common in February, so check the organiser’s weather updates on the day. The walk to Fortitude Valley afterwards is easy if you want to wait for the crowds to clear.
